Pursuant to the Initial Decision of the Atomic Safety and Licensing i

Board, dated January 15, 1971, the Atomic ~ Energy Commission has for-l uarded to the Office of the Federal Register for filing and publica-tion a notice relating to Amendment No. 1 to Provisional Operating License No. DPE-22 which was issued to Northern States Power Company on September 8, 1970, for the Monticello Nuclear Generating Unit No. 1.

As stated in the notice, Amendment Ro. I to Provisional Operating License No. DPR-22 supersedes the September 8,1970 License in its entirety and authorizes horthern States to operate the Monticello Nuclear Generating Unit No.1 at/ power levels not in excess of 1670 megawatts (thermal), axcept that Northern States shall not operate the facility at power levels in excess of five (5) meeswatts thermal with the reactor vessel head in place, until(notified by the Commission in writing that operation of the feedvater pumps has been demonstrated to the Consission's satisfaction.)

Copies of the License Amendment, the Notice of Issuance of Amendment to Provisional Operating License, and the Initial Decision are enclosed for your information.
