Telephone Conversation between A. Hon and P. J. Coffin on May 28, 1985.
Dear Sir:
The NRC was notified of a potentially reportable { deficiency in the referenced telephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty (30) days.
As discussed with Mr. Hon (Reference C), ANPP received notification of additional suspect heat numbers and types of pipe in a letter dated May 21, 1985, from Hub, Inc.
In light of the new information, please disregard the determination of Not Reportable (Reference B),
pending further investigation of the deficiency.
Due to the expanded investigation and evaluation required, an Interim Report is attached.
It is now expected that this information will be finalized by July 15, 1985, at which time a complete report will be submitted.
Very truly yours, Ezmh3%g E. E. Van Brunt, Jr.

.t INTERIM REPORT - DER 85-15 POTENTIAL REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY ARIZONA NUCLEAR POWER PROJECT PVNCS UNIT 2, 3 I.
Potential Froblem Hub, Inc. has notified ANPP under 10CFR21 that certain pipe material manufactured by Phoenix Steel Corporation may have undersize wall thickness due to the inspection method used by Phoenix Steel'Corpor-ation.
Verbal Information obtained by PVNCS jobsite QA from Phoenix Steel indicates that the suspect heat numbers are five digit, beginning with eight or nine.
Review of heat number records at PVNCS revealed only one heat number from Phoenix Steel. Heat Number 93213 was procured on P. O. F152319 from Cuyon Alloys and is 8 feet of Schedule 40, A106, Crade B pipe.
This material was used for DCP's ISP, 2SP, and 3CP-EW-016.
On May 24, 1985, the Arizona Nuclear Power Project was notified by Hub, Inc. (letter dated May 21, 1985) that there are additional heat numbers and types of pipe which may be suspect.
II.
Approach To and Status Of Proposed Resolution Bechtel Engineering is currently studying this problem to determine reportability and technical justification for corrective action.
III.
Projected Completion of Corrective Action and Submittal of the Final Report The complete evaluation and Final Report are forecast to be completed by July 15, 1985.
