SUBJECT:
FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM TEST PLANS In your letter of July 11, 1979, our agreement was requested to start the fire protection system testing involving the use of Halon as a suppression agent for cable fires. We agree that this phase of the fire protection re-search program should proceed as planned. We also understand that our agreement will be requested prior to initiating testing with other suppression agents. Any requests for agreement should be made in sufficient time for our review and should be accompanied by a detailed description of any modifications to the previously agreed upon test plans.
We note that the enclosure to your July 11,19791.etter includes a project plan for penetration, fire stop testing.
We have previously in,dicated to your staff that we consider the current standard tests for penetration fire stops are adequa'te to qualify these seals for use in operating plants. Fire stop assemblies and materials qualified to meet these standard criteria are commercially available for new and replacement seals at operating plants.
We have requested licensees to qualify their existing fire stops in accordance with these same criteria. We do not ag stop testing should be considered furth[ee that plans for penetration fire r.
