Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Docket No. 50-219 In accordance with 10CFR21, GPUN is providing notification of a deviation from the technical requirements included in a procurement document.
GPUN procured replacement parts from Dresser Industries for the Electromatic Relief Valves (EMRVs), model 1525VX-2-SMY-1. Replacement parts supplied by Dresser Industries were for an upgralled valve design, model 1525VX-3-XFB-ll.
Certain combinations of the dash 3 (-3) parts cannot be used with tWe dash 2
(-2) parts. The cause of concern was the failure of Dresser Industries to notify GPUN that dash 3 parts were being supplied and that care must be exercised in interchanging these parts.
Oyster Creek plant engineering considers that certain configurations, in wnich a pilot disc (of dash 3 design) is installed with a pilot disc stem (of dash 2 design), could leave excessive clearance such that the solenoid does not lift the pilot disc stem sufficiently to actuate the EMRY. A parts evaluation was performed on the Oyster Creek EMRVs to ensure that the correct configuration had been installed. No configuration problems were found in the installed replacement parts at Oyster Creek.
