d-w; Oyster Creek nu iear Generatina Station Special Report 92-07 Egport Date:

October 22. 1992 Occurrence Date: October 21, 1992 Identification of Occurrencel Isolation of the Diesel Fire pumps from the Fire Suppression System.

Description of Occurrence:

On October 15, 1992 during testing, it was determined that the stem and disc

- were separated on the discharge valve (V-9-004) for diesel fire pump P-9-102A.

Diesel fire pump P-9-102A was declared inoperable and a job order prepared to replace V-9-004.

Since both diesel pumps were required to be isolated to replace V-9-004, it was decided to replace the discharge valve (V-9-005) for P-9-1028 at this time. -This was considered prudent because of theirfsimilar operating history and the target of opportunity existed. At 1230~ hours on 10/21/92 the diesel _ fire pumps were isolated and work began on' replacement of

-the'(2) diesel fire pump discharge valves.

Prior-to; removing the (2) diesel fire pumps from service and isolating the supply line which feeds the Oyster.

Creek Fire Suppression Water System, the redundant fire pump P-9-101 was started and lined (4) to-supply the; suppression _ water system.

Both.V-9-004 and V-9-005 were replaced and fire diesel P-9-102A was declared operable at 03P8 hours-on 10/22/92..The redundant fire pump-was then secured-and system line ups were established consirtent with one (1) operable-diesel-. fire-pump.-

During this entire time, the redundant fire' pump which has a design capacity.

of 2000 gpm was-operating to maintain pressure on the fire suppression water system and the fire suppression water tank was full with a tsjacity exceeding

-310,000 gallons.

Hence the safety significance of +his event was minimal,
