Dear Mr. Keppler:

References (a) and (b) provided information concerning a deficiency reportable pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55(e) regarding the removal of nameplates from ASME large bore spool pieces at our Braidwood Station.

The purpose of this letter is to provide an updated status of the corrective actions taken to resolve this issue.

This letter is considered to be an Interim Report.

Corrective Actions Being-Taken Commonwealth Edison Company NCR No. 639 and Phillips, Getschow Company NCR No. 1783 have been generated to document this item and track its resolution.

Installed large bore piping spools that do not have ASME NPT nameplates are presently being identified as part of the Material Traceability Verification (MTV) Program.

Spool pieces within the scope of MTV with missing nameplates will not be final' accepted by Phillips, Getschow' Company until the spool pieces are positively identified per procedure PGCP-51 which was outlined in Reference (b).

A list will be developed by Phillips, Getschow Company of isometric drawings not within the scope of MTV.

Piping not within the scope of MTV that was not 5 ject to installation procedures to properly control removal of NPT nameplates will have a separate visual exam to verify

,~- Current estimates indicate that'approximately 600 installed

spool pieces do not have NPT nameplates attached.

To date, 458 spool pieces are -known to have ASME NPT nameplates removed.

Procedure:PGCP-51 has been reviewed and approved for use_by Commonweelth Edison Co._and Sargent & Lundy.

Training of appropriete Phillips, Getschow Company personnel has been completed'and the processing of initial packages has begun.

The estimated completion of the program for large bore spools without ASME-nameplates is September, 1985.

An interim report udpating the status of spool identification and implementation of procedure.PGCP-51 will be provided by June 13, 1985.
