Ms. E. G. Adensam, Chief Licensing Branch No. 4

Subject:

McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Technical Specification Amendment Dose Projections for Routine Releases

Dear Mr. Denton:

Attached are proposed license amendments to Facility Operating Licenses NPF-9 and NPF-17 for McGuire Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2, respectively.

The proposed changes to the McGuire Technical Specifications furnish a needed clarification to surveillance requirements 4.11.1.3.1 and 4.11.2.4.1 which govern the preparation of projected doses for liquid and gaseous releases to unrestricted areas. At present, all planned radioactive releases are processed by the radwaste treatment systems to ensure that only the lowest possible levels of radioactive effluents are released. Therefore dose projections are not required for pretreated releases and are only required when radwaste treatment systems are not used.

Attachment I contains the proposed changes for the Technical Specifications.

Attachment II provides the Justification and Safety Analysis in support of the proposed changes. Attachment III provides an analysis conducted in accordance with the standards contained in 10CFR50.92, as required by 10CFR50.91. This analysia concludes that the proposed changes to the Technical Specifications would not have any adverse safety implications.

This request involves one application for amendment to McGuire's Technical Specifications. Accordingly, pursuant to 10CFR 170.21 a check.for $150.00 is enclosed.

Please feel free to contact us if you require any additional information.

Very truly yours.

A Hal B. Tucker
