p Attention: Division of Reactor Licensing Gentlemen:
Item No.19 of Table I of the Technical Specifications for the Georgia Tech reactor (Appendix A to License No. R-97) limits the alarm set point range of the area radiation monitors to "? 2 5 to $ 100 mr/hr." Normal background radiation levels in the process equipment room with the reactor at power levels exceeding 500 Kw are above 100 mr/hr.
]
In order to prevent normal radiation levels in the process room from causing alarms it will be necessary to set the alarm points of the monitors inthisroomwellabove100mr/hr. To permit this it is requested that the vording of item No.19 under the column headed " set point range" in Table I be changed to read "5100 mr/hr or twice background level, whichever is greater. "
Implicit in this wording is the understanding that background level means the level with the reactor at full licensed power.
The process equipment room has been established as a high radiation area.
It is properly posted and equipped v$th varning signals in compliance with 10 CFR Part 20.
Your cooperation in incorporating this change in the GTRR Technical Specifications will be appreciated.
Very truly yours, l'
