Subject:

Clinton Power Station (CPS) Unit 1 Request for Additional Information Hydrogen Control for Mark III Containments

Dear Mr. Schwencer:

In your letter dated September 14, 1984, you requested that Illinois Power Company (IPC) provide additional information on the CLASIX-3 computer code which has been used to support licenning activities. In IPC letter number U-0760 dated November 9, 1984, IPC indicated that it would review the Hydrogen Control Owners Group (HCOG)

Hydrogen Control Program Plan and identify the specific areas of the

'HCOG Program Plan upon which IPC will rely for CPS licensing. The HCOG addresses the above request in Task 8.7 of its Hydrogen Control Program Plan submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Staff on December 14, 1984. IPC has reviewed this portion of the HCOG Program Plan and endorses the approach set forth therein. The HCOG is currently scheduling meetings with the NRC Staff to discuss this request and other hydrogen-related issues. The current HC00 schedule for providing the requested information on CLASIX-3 is February 28, 1985. IPC will review the information provided by HCOG in response to the above request for information and identify the information which IPC intends to rely upon for CPS licensing by March 15, 1985.
