Most probable cause is a combination of repeat discharges and the manner of recharging. The battery was replaced, tested satisfactorily and declared operable prior to restart.

Changes to procedures and operating practices will preserve future operability.

SUMMARY

Unit 1 entered the month of March 1996 with 100% capability. The unit was shutdown March 8,1996 due to Battery 112 being declared inoperable.

The unit retumed to service March 27,1996 and 100% capability was restored March 31,1996 after a normally scheduled secondary chemistry boric Ecid soak.
