NIAGARA M0 HAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT - UNIT 2 DOCKET NO. 50-410 Final Report for a Problem Concerning Reactor Core Isolation Cooling System Turbine Steam Admission Line (55(e)-84-33)

Description of the Problem The steam supply line to the reactor core isolation cooling system turbine contains a vertical section which could pemit accumulation of condensate.

This column of condensate may be carried into the turbine on system start.

Analysis of Safety Implications Since a detailed piping analysis was not perfomed for the condition described abcve, we cannot dismiss the potential for exceeding stress limits in the piping system during turbine start-up. Therefore, had this condition gone undetected, it could have adversely affected the safety of operations of the pl ant.

Corrective Action A 1-inch diameter drain line will be installed on the downstream side of the steam admission valve, 2ICS*MOV120 The installation will be completed prior to the turbine start-up and testing.
