Mr. R. W. Starostecki, Director U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region I Division of Project and Resident Programs 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, PA 19406 Re: Nine Mile Po19t Unit 2 Docket No. 50-410

Dear Mr. Starostecki:

On July 6,1984, we submitted an interim report in.accordance with 10CFR50.55(e) concerning feedwater. valves furnished by Velan Valve Corporation. The problem involved the tensile and impact tests on coupons from the valve body. The final report is due November 26, 1984.

Our Engineer, Stone & Webster, notified us that they had located a separate test forging from the same heat lot number as the two valves in question. However, test specimens taken from this forging will not be representative of the valve bodies because the forging is from a different furnace charge.

We now plan to remove test-coupons from each valve body and perform new tensile and impact tests. The results of these tests will be reported to you in a final report by February 28, 1985.

Very truly yours, 8412200426 841126
