DOCKET NO. 50-410 Final Report for a Problem Concerning Undersized Welds in-Control Rod Drive Multifunction Support (55(e)-84-55)~

Description of the Problem The' problem concerns welds in the control rod drive multifunction support furnished by Reactor Controls, Incorporated. An inspection of the multifunction support identified five shop welds and five field welds that are smaller than shown on the_ drawings..This condition is documented in Reactor Controls, Incorporated Nonconformance Reports NMP-186 and 187.

Analysis of Safety Implications An evaluation of the subject welds performed by Reactor Controls, Incorporated, indicates that the welds provided are more than adequate to meet the minimum tiesign requirements. Therefore, if this condition were to have remained uncorrected, it could not have adversely affected the safety of

. operations of the plant.

It should be noted that Reactor Controls, Incorporated has reworked the_five field welds by adding additional weld material.

To provide additional' assurance, Reactor Controls, Incorporated will investigate other areas of multifunction support for similar conditions by June 1,1985. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will be notified of any reportable deficiencies found during this investigation.
