SUBJECT:

Braidwood Station Units 1 and 2 10 CFR 50.55(e) No. 84-05 Interim Report G. K. Newberg Inconsistencies in the Documentation of Structural Steel Installations NRC Docket-Nos. 50-456/457 References (a): E. D. Swartz letter to J. G. Keppler dated April 17, 1984 i

(b): D. H. Smith letter to J. G. Keppler dated October 24, 1984

Dear Mr. Keppler:

References (a) and (b) provided information concerning a potential deficiency reportable pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55(e) regarding inconsistencies found in certain_ documentation of the

. structural steel installed by G. K. Newberg at our Braidwood Station. The purpose of this letter is to provide an updated status of the corrective actions taken to resolve this issue. This letter is considered to be an Interim Report.

Status of Resolution It was previously reported in the above references that all Structural Steel Installation Traveler (SSIT) packages would be reviewed following approval of G. K. Newberg's document review procedure. Review completion by January 15, 1985, was projected.

Because of the number of issues to be addressed during the SSIT Review (see also Braidwood 50.55(e) 84-15), procedure development has taken much longer than anticipated. It is currently anticipated that' procedure approval will be obtained by March 15, 1985. Actual SSIT' review will take approximately three months. An interim report will'be submitted by May 1, 1985 updating the status of procedure

-development and implementation.
