DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Upper Plenum Injection LOCA Model Development Proprietary Information Attached, for the information of the NRC Staff, is one copy of our Upper Plenum Injection (UPI) LOCA Program Plan. This plan contains information proprietary to the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. It is being submitted in response to a February 12, 1985 request from the NRC Staff to address concerns related to the present UPI LOCA Methodology. A new UPI LOCA Model, complying with the requirements of 10 CFR Part 50 Appendix K and 50.46, will be developed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation for the Prairie Island Nucear Generating Plant. The attached plan is essentially the same plan presented to the staff in a meeting on January 10, 1985. Staff comments have been incorporated into the program plan.

The plan addresses cores fueled with both Westinghouse Electric Corpora-tion and Exxon Nuclear Company fuel. Westinghouse will be supplying fuel to Prairie Island for reloads beginning in 1986. Therefore, it may not be necessary to perform in their entirety tasks in the enclosed plan associated with Exxon fuel. .

The work scope for this project has been divided into 13 casks. Section 4.0 of the enclosed program plan identifies the estimated schedule for each task.

Since this a development effort, the actual completion time is subject to change. Three meetings with the NRC Staff are identified per discussions at the January 10, 1985 meeting (see Section 5.0 of the attachment). Th {f purpose of these meetings will be to discuss with the NRC Staff results .

and planned approaches for tasks not yet completed. If significant delays in the schedule occur, the NRC Staff will be notified at these ,
