Braidwood Station Units 1 and 2 10 CFR 50.55(e) No. 85-03 30-day Report Instrumentation Installation Reverification Program NRC Docket Nos. 50-456/457
Dear Mr. Keppler:
On February 4 1985 the Commonwealth Edison Company notified your office of a deficiency r,eportable pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55(e) regarding deficiencies identified during the conduct of the Instrumentation Installation Reverification Program at our Braidwood Station.
This letter provides information concerning this matter to fulfill the thirty day reporting requirement.
For tracking purposes, this deficiency was assigned Number 85-03.
DESCRIPTION OF DEFICIENCY As a result of Commonwealth Edison Company Quality Assurance audits and NRC inspections, procedural deficiencies in the Phillips Getschow Quality Control inspections of instrumentation installations were identified.
These deficiencies involved criteria for line separation, segregation color coding, and the performance of inspections which were not thoroughly documented nor complete as to design significant attributes.
ANALYIS OF SAFETY IMPLICATIONS Instrument installations, if left installed as they were prior to January, 1984, rauld possibly have compromised any trip or control function of the instrument.

J. G. Keppler-February 27, 1985 CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN In January, 1984, Phillips Getschow installation and inspection procedure, PGCP 30, was revised to include all specification requirements for new installations.
For previous installations, the instrument retrofit verification procedure, QCP 32, was developed to reinspect and rework, as necessary, all safety related ASME section III and Class H instrument installations, and review associated documentation to ensure that these installations conform to the specification requirements.
This program is currently. underway and is expected to be complete by March 31, 1985.
We expect that a final report will be submitted by May 1, 1985.
