On - September

- 1984, at approximately 1230. CDT.
with Unit. 2 - in steady-state operation at 1638 MWt (approximately 67% power) the_ fire detectors -(2T43-NO34 A&B) located in the drywell around the A&B recirculation pump motors failed.
This caused the respective _ fire.
detection channel for - both of the recirculation pumps to fail'in its alarm condition.
Thus, the plant.was. unable to meet the requirements of Tech. Specs. section 3.3.6.8.
The plant is presently ' complying with the LCO requirements of Tech.
Specs.
section 4.3.6.8.3 (i.e.,
primary.
containment temperature checked once per hour for abnormal-indications).
Due to the nitrogen inerted containment in Unit 2 during operations, a proposed change - to.
Tech. Specs. has been approved onsite and is. expected to be submitted to the NRC to request the deletion of the fire detectors in the
'drywell from Tech. Specs. section 3.3.6.8.
The health and safety of the public were.not affected by this non-repetitive event.
This Special Report was signed one day late.
