Dear Mr. Keppler:

Reference (a) provided the initial written report of a potential deficiency reportable pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55(e) regarding electrical butt splices not installe' in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations at our Braidwood Station.

The purpose of this letter is to provide an updated status of the corrective actions taken to resolve this issue.

STATUS OF RESOLUTION Commonwealth Edison Company NCR-598 has been issued to track issue resolution.

L. K. Comstock procedures have been revised and approved to ensure that future work is correctly installed and adequately checked.

Specifically, Procedure 4.3.9 (Rev. D), Cable Termination Installation, was approved by Sargent and Lundy on July 16, 1984.

Procedure 4.8.9 (Rev. E), Electrical Termination Inspection, was approved by Sargent and Lundy on September 6, 1984.

A program has been developed as' a supplement to the disposition of NCR-598 to ensure that all potentially deficient safety related butt splices are identified and inspected.

Deficient splices will be repaired and reinspected in accordance with the revised installation and Inspection procedures.

This program also provides for adequate documentatici of corrective action activities Training sessions will be conducted for personnel involved in the implementation of the NCR disposition supplement.

It is currently anticipated that training will be completed by November 20, 1984, at which time reinspections will be initiated.

A corrective action completion date of January 31, 1985, is still pro jected.

A supplemental or final: report will be submitted by February 15, 1985.
