As = required by Inspection Report No. 50-400/84-19, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) hereby clarifies our January 5,1981 response to IE Bulletin 80-21 for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP). This response is inc1.uded as Enclosure 1.
The subject of this bulletin is the use of valve parts cast by Malcolm Foundary Company, Incorporated (MFC). The Anchor Darling Valve Company (ADV) is the only affected valve manufacturer for SHNPP. of he January 5,1981 response listed MFC manuf actured valve parts and associated valve tag numbers to be used in safety-related systems at SHNPP.
In compliance with the requirements of IE Bulletin 80-21, the valve yokes associated with Value Numbers 2MS-V8SB-1, 2 and 2MS-V9SA-1, 2 were replaced by the ADV in November 1981. However, thr. handwheels did not require replacement because upon subsequent review, CP&L determined that the handwheels associated with Valve Numbers 2CT-V21SA-1, 2 and 2CT-V43SB-1, 2 were not manuf actured by MFC. Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
As requested by IE Bulletin 80-21, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) has reviewed the design of the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP) with regard to the use of valve parts cast by Malcolm Foundry Company, Inc. CP&L has determined that active anfety related valves which have parts supplied by Malcolm Foundry are used on SHNPP Units 1 and 2.
. Valve Company is the only affected valve manufacturer. Attachment 1 is a compilation of valve parts as well as the valve tag numbers which are used in safety related systems on SUNPP.
Anchor Darling is arranging tests to determine that the material in the affected valves is acceptable.
At.y valve parts having properties not in accordance with ASIt material specification will be replaced by Anchor Darling. Resolution of this item will be complete before receipt of the facility operating license.

CP&L plans no further response to this bulletin.
