POTENTI AL CONSTRUCTION DEFICIENCY DESIGN DEFICIENCY-UNDERRATED CABLE HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On July 20, 1984, a verbal report was made to Region I, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr.
E.
C. McCabe, advising of a potentially significant construction l
deficiency concerning underrated electrical cable.
The following interim report is provided in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e).
l Our Architect;/ Engineer and Constructor, Bechtel, has informed us of a Hope Creek design deficiency specifying cable with a i
conductor temperature rating of 90 C for connection to Valcor solenoid valves.
Bechtel has determined that the terminal block temperature of these solenoid valves dictates the use of connection cable with a rating of 150 C.
This design deficiency applies to the Hope Creek Instrument Gas Compressor System.
A report conveying the requisite safety analysis and details concerning our corrective action is expected to be submitted to your office by September 28, 1984.
