Subject:

Byron Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Evacuation Time Estimates NRC Docket Nos. 50-454 and 50-455 References (a):

December 15, 1982 letter from T. R. Tramm to H. R. Denton.

Dear Mr. Denton:

This letter provides additional information regarding emergency planning for Byron Generating Station.

Review of this information should make it unnecessary to impose License Conditions regarding evacuation time estimates-for the plume exposure. pathway.

Reference (a) provided a detailed study of evacuation times for the plume exposure pathway emergency planning zone.

In the January 13, 1984 ASLB Initial Decision the Board directed that those evacuation time

-estimates be revised to include employment center shutdown times and realistic time estimates for adverse weather conditions.

The enclosed report incorporates those minor changes.

The ASLB also directed that Commonwealth Edison provide informa-tion to the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety which realistically reflects the average generic sheltering values of the structures in the Byron emergency planning zone.

That action will be completed in early September.

Please contact this office if there are any additional questions regarding these matters.

One signed original and fifteen copies of this letter and the report are provided for NRC review.

Very truly yours, 8408220106 840816 i
