NIAGARA M0 HAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT UNIT 2 DOCKET N0. 50-410 Final Report for a Problem Concerning Qualification of 40-mil, Kerite 1000-V Fire Resistant Control Cable Description of the Problem The problem' concerns 40-mil, 1000-V fire resistant control cable supplied by Kerite.
Investigation has revealed that the subject cable is not qualified for use in the primary containment and portions of the Reactor Building.
Analysis of Safety Implications Based on engineering judgment, if this problem were to have remained uncorrected, it could have. adversely affected the safe operation of the plant.
Correctivehetions a.
Primary Containment Use of the subject 40-mil fire resistant insulated 1000-V control cable has been prohibited for use in safety-related circuits in the primary containment for Nine Mile Point Unit 2.
b.
Reactor Building As a result of the investigation, 51 scheduled cables were changed to alternative qualified cables for the Nine Mile Point Unit 2 Reactor Building environment. Revised cable pull tickets have been issued for 49 cables. The remaining two tickets will-be issued by September 1, 1984.
Further use of the subject cables has been prohibited for safety-related circuits in the Reactor Building for Nine Mile Point Unit 2.
