Byron Nuclear Power Station Units 1 & 2 Byron Station Security Plan NRC Docket Nos. 50-454 & 50-455 TAC Nos. 65282/65283 Exemption Reauest Commonwealth Edison Company (Comed) requests, in accordance with the provisions of Title 10CFR Part 73.5, " specific exemptions", an exemption from certain requirements of 10CFR 73.55, " Requirements for physical protection of licensed activities in nuclear power reactors against radiological sabotage" for Byron Nuclear Power Station Units 1 & 2.
The basis for this exemption is to allow the use of a hand geometry biometric system to control unescorted access into the Protected Area of Byron Nucicar Power Station in conjunction with allowing the photograph identification j
badges /keycards offsite. This process is scheduled to begin on or before January 1,1996 pending approval of this exemption.
i The enclosure details the hand geometry biometric system, the process which will be utilized in employing this system and the proposed changes to the station security plan.
This enclosure contains Safeguards Information which must be protected from public disclosure pursuant to 10CFR 73.21.
