Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 Proposed Change Request No. 101 to Operating License and Request for Exemption to 10CFR50 Appendix J.III.D.l(a)

Gentlemen:

En::losed are:

1.

Three (3) originals and thirty-seven (37) copies of an Application for Amendment to our Operating License No. DPR-66 to revise surveillance requirement 4.6.1.2a and bases to incorporate an exemption to 10CFR50 Appendix J.III.D.l(a) to establish a 40 10-month Type A Containment Integrated Leakage Rate Test frequency without reference to the 10-year service period.

Surveillance Requirement 4.6.1.2a presently requires containment Type A tests to be. conducted at 40 10-month intervals and the third test of each set to be conducted during.the shutdown for the 10-year inservice inspection. By letter dated May 21, 1984 the NRC granted an extension of the 10-year inservice inspection period.

This will enable scheduling the 10-year inservice inspection for late 1987.

The second Type A test was completed in May 1982, therefore, it is not possible to perform the third Type A test at the shutdown for the 10-year inservice inspection and also comply with the 40 i 10-month interval requirement.

2.

Forty (40) copies of documents designated Attachments A and B which setforth the chefoge in technical specifications, the request for exemption to 10 CFR 50 Appendix J.III.D.l(a) and its safety evaluation.

A license amendment application fee of $150.00 will be submitted under separate cover in accordance with 10CFR170.
