Dear Dr. Murley:
In accordance with Information and Enforcement Bulletin 80-13, Niagara Mohawk has visually inspected the Nine Mile Point Unit I core spray spargers and associated internal piping during the 1984~ refueling and maintenance outage.
Our submittal of May 13, 1981 indicated two small cracks existed in the core spray system. Our recent reexamination appears to indicate that the two cracks may be one unique crack. The combined total length of the crack (s),
however, remains insignificant (at present, 3/4 inch + 1/4 inch)..Since no other indications of cracks were found, no corrective action is required at this time. Furtner, Niagara Mohawx will continue to visually inspect the core spray spargers and associated internal piping during future refueling outages.
