Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555 Attention: Ms. E. G. Adensam, Chief Licensing Branch No. 4 Re: Catawba Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414

Dear Mr. Denton:

On May 21 and 22,1984, representatives from Duke Power, Westinghouse, and BBC, Brown Boveri, Inc. met with the NRC Staff to discuss resolution of outstanding items in tne area of Seismic Qualification of Equipment for Catawba Unit 1. The attached report documents the resolutions which were agreed upon during this meeting.

4 The following items remain o;ien:

1. Two Westinghouse items involving analysis on the RHR pump / motor.

These analyses are being performed by the pump vendor and will be available by mid-June 1984.

2. One Duke item involving the seismic qualification of the Duke built electrical isolation system for the Westinghouse reactor protection system cabinets. The documentation of this resolution will be completed before fuel load with the bolt torque verification and shimming to be completed before initial criticality.

The seismic qualification program for safety-related equipment located in Catawba Unit 1 is essentially complete. Duke Power Company herewith confirms that the Catawba Unit 1 safety-related equipment (reference FSAR Tables 3.9.3-13, 3.9.3-14 and 3.10-1) is seismically qualified in accordance with the Catawba FSAR commitments.

Very truly yours,

Hal B.. Tucker ROS/php 1
