yJRGINIA - ELECTRIC - AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNIT NO. 2 WITHDRAWAL OF ASME SECTION XI RELIEF REQUEST TEMPO 9ARY NON-CODE REPAIR TO A CLASS 2 COMPONENT On December 21,1990, Virginia Electric and Pcwer Company submitted a ASME Section XI relief request, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(5), associated with a temporary non-code repair of a 3/4-inch vent line on the "A" main steam line for North Anna Unit 2. A pin hole leak had developed between the main steam trip valve and the non return valve outside of containment. The relief request described that the flaw was discovered during power operation and that the Unit would have had to be shut down in order to perform a Code repair.
The relief request also described that the temporary repair was an engineered, mechanical enclosure filled with a hardened liquid sealant that is. fabricated from l
' safety related materials and designed for the pressure and temperature rating of the main steam system. The request further stated that the engineered, temporary repair I
enclosure.was intended for use until the first opportunity for completion of a Code repair.
On September 23,1991, the temporary repair enclosure was removed and the flawed section of piping was replaced in accordance with ASME Section XI requirements. As l
a result _ of this repair activity, our_ December 21,1990 relief request is no longer needed and is withdrawa.
