BELLEFONTE NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 - SUPPORT FOR CABLE TRAY RISER CONNECTORS - BLRD-50-438/84-25, BLRD-50-439/84 FIRST INTERIM REPORT The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-0IE Inspector D. M. verre111 on March 5, 1984 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e) as NCR BLN CEB 8402. Enclosed is our first interim report. We expect to submit ou'r next report by January 24, 1985.

10 CFR 50.55(e) i FIRST INTERIM REPORT Description of Deficiency Adjustable riser connectors for electrical cable trays were not supported on each side of the hinge bolt in TVA designs as recommended by P-W Industries, Incorporated; the cable tray manufacturers.
Interim Progress The subject connectors will be analyzed to determine if they have adequate load carrying capacity for the manner in which they are presently being suppor ted. If the load carrying capacity is inadequate, then TVA will 1.
Stiffen the connector by adding to tiis existing connect,or material, or 2.
Replace the existing connector with a new similar connector asde of stronger materials, or 3.
Add additional tray supports in the vicinity of the connector.
