Description of-the-Problem The problem pertains to liauid penetrant examination of certain welds performed by ITT Grinnell. During the Nuclear Regulatory Comission Construction Appraisal Team Audit audit, it was observed that some welds in the main steam safety valves, vents and drains system piping had inadeauate surface preparation for the liauid penetrant examination performed. ITT Grinnell is now in the process of reexamining other accessible welds in the main steam safety valves vents and drains system piping. Reexamination has revealed some rejectable linear indications.

The matter is still under investigation, and a final report will be submitted by October 17, 1984.
