e Pags 2 of 2 BFN - IPD BFN, IP-10 PATIENT CARE GUIDELINES 2.0 IRRADIATED-NONCONTAMINATED (continued):

2.5: For individuals who have received an acute total body dose greater

than 75 res, hospitalization should be considered and arrangements made for evaluation by a nuclear medicine specialist regardless of physical injuries or illnesses. Blood studies should be drawn per directions ( Attachment 4).

If the patient is ill or injured, he e

should be transported to Huntsville Hospital or Decatur General Hospital with the information that this patient has received an acute total body dose greater than 75 rem.

It is recommended that the attending physician consult REAC/TS.

If the patient is not seriously ill or injured enough to require hospitalization for physical' illness or injury, consultation with REAC/TS should be obtained through a TVA medical office. At the recommenidation of REAC/TS, referral may be

-ande to Oak Ridge Hospital of thle United Methodist Church where the patient could be observed and tr'eated by the physicians on the REAC/TS team.

3 0-CONTAMINATED PATIENT 4 31 The patient should be given initial emergency care by the medical emergency response team.

All de! contamination that the medical status i

b' of the patient will allow'should be accomplished. The appropriate sequence of care must be determ ed on an individual basis by the medical-health physics team. T injured person will be transported and treated in one of two ways:

a.,If the person is severely injured, they may be transported

. dire'otly to Huntsville Hospital or Decatur General Hospital.

e

~

Every reasonable effort should be made to reduce the rac'ioactive contamination level to less than.5 R per hour at one foot.

Spread of contamination may be minimized by removing the patient's excess clothing and wrapping him in a sheet, as his injuries permit, b.

If cases of less severe injuries, the patient will be sont to the personnel decontamination fa[cility in the service building (or 4

radwaste building, if stretcher bound) treated in the' emergency 8-treatment area or transferred to Huntsville Hospital or Decatur Goneral-Hospital.

3.2- - The health physicist will collec't, identify, -label, and. analyze all

-biological spoolmens as required;and deemed necessary. He will obtain the injured person's personal dosimetry and replace with equivalent' dosimetry.if appropri' ate.

3.3 The health physics group will colntrol contamination during transportation to the receiving hospital.
