Catawba Nuclear Station Dockets 50-413, 50-414 j
L 1994 Annual Radiological Environmental Operating Report Supplemental Information Radiological Environmental Progmm Upgrades 1)
Air Samplers:
Catawba Nuclear Station Engineering Group is pursuing upgrades to power smoothing at Met Tower (Site 200) and at Tega Cay (Site 212).
This correction should prevent or at least lessen the number of " blown fuse" occurrences. Plans are to provide this change within the third quarter of 1995.
As of 05/01/95, there has only been one air sampler deviation.
2)
Water: Continuing problems with pumps and the arrangements of the sites resulted in numerous sample deviations during 1994.
Catawba Nuclear Station Systems Engineering Group is providing support for a renovation effort at Allison Creek (Site 208). Due to the poor quality of the water of Lake Wylie, a very strhigent preventative maintenance program is in place utilizing both Catawba Maintenance personnel and Radiological l
Environmental Services personnel.
This location has been given top l
priority. The other Surface Water Sites (211 and 215) do not present the same degree of concerns, but are on the same preventative maintenance program as Site 208.
Work began the week of 04/24/95, at Site 208 and Catawba Radiation Protection staff is monitoring progress on a regular 3
basis.
)
3)
Pre-Defined Work Requests:
Maintenance and Radiation Protection Groups are developing pre-defined work requests for all sites.
In conjunction with the Planning Group, a detailed description for all work, contracts, priority, etc. is being produced.
Responses to any requests related to our sampling equipment will be more efficient and effective.
The work window managers on site have been contacted and along with Radiation Protection have developed an improved method for scheduling work in the field.
4)
Sample Deviations:
Radiological & Environmental Services and Catawba Radiation Protection personnel are improving the process of communications following ALL sample deviations.
Personnel collecting samples change from week to week and there are been problems with. consistency in the completion of Sample Deviation Forms as well as appropriate notifications.
A standard method of communications has been developed and implemented.
