FIRST INTERIM REPORT Description of Deficiency
- c. ---
Carbon steel pipe supports top coated with carboline 305 paint, a halogen- _
containing substance, are in contact with stainless steel piping. The deficiency was identified at Bellefonte Nuclear Plant per Program Information Notice 83-8, " Stainless Steel Pipe in Contact with Halogenated Protective Coatings," which documents the possibility of stress corrosion cracking of such piping at temperatums exceeding 140oF. The deficiency resulted from the failure to provide guiMIines in General Construction Specification G-29M restricting halogen-containing paint from contacting stainless steel piping.
Interim Progress TVA's Division of Construction (CONST) will be instructed to mmove the carboline. 305 paint from the carbon steel surfaces at the points where it comes in contact with the stainless steel pipe and system operating temperatures exctaed 140oF.
~
TVA will provide a final report upon determination of the action required to prevent mourrence.
