.ss on Region II Attn: Mr. James P. O'Reilly, Regional Administrator 101 Marietta Sta et, NW, Suite 2900 Atlanta, Georgia 30303

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

BELLEFONTE NUCLEAR PLANf UNITS 1 AND 2 - SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE TO VIOLATION 50-438/81-29-01, 50-439/83-29 INADEQUATE FIELD MODIFICATION OF LETDOWN COOLER SUPPORTS This letter is in response to R. C. Lewis' letter dated December 8,1981, report numbers 50-438/81-29, 50-439/81-29 concerning activities at the Bellefonte Nuclear Plant which appeared to have been in violation of NRC regulations. Our initial response was submitted on January 21, 1982, with revised responses subuitted on February 10 and June 18, 1982, and a supplemental response on June 10, 1983 Below is our supplemental response to the citations.

As discussed with Linda Watson on November 30, 1983, the date of December 1,1983 for completion of corrective actions, as indicated in our supplemental response on this matter, would not be met. The original repair plan for the letdown cooler supports needed revision. The plan has been revised and is now being myiewed. Since this new plan also necessitates the procurement of material, the completion date has been delayed. The corrective action on this matter will be completed by June 1, 1084 for unit 1 and January 31, 1985 for unit 2.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please get in touch with R. H. Shell at FTS 858-2688.

  • To the best of my knowledge, I declare the statements contained herein are complete and true.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY
