Interim Report of Flood Damage to Peach Bottom Units 2 and 3 Equipment Resulting from Tropical Disturbance "Agnes" AEC Construction Permit Nos. CPPR-37 & CPPR-38 File: QUAL 2-10-2 I

Dear Sir:

In compliance with 10CFR50 55 Paragraph (e) we are hereby submitting an interim report of flood damage sustained at the Peach Bottom Site, as a result of the subject storm of June 21 to 23, 1972,and the Susquebanna River flooding of June 23 to 25, 1972, as discussed in telephone conversation l between Philadelphia Electric Company and USAEC Region I Compliance Inspector on June 23 and 26,1972.

Peach Bottom Site - Units 2 and 3 We wish to report that no damage from the Susquebanna River flood l crest, reached on June 24, 1972, occurred to any safety-related structures, equipment or components of Peach Bottom Units 2 and 3 It was reported that the Susquehanna River at Peach Bottom crested at about Elevation 114; that is, about 2 feet below existing plant grade.

Minor flooding occurred in the Unit 3 side of the Radwaste Building l at Elevation 88 ft. from surface water runoff entering the building through penetrations which were open due to construction activities. No water damage was sustained in the Unit 2 side of the Radwaste Building which is further along in construction.

The following three motors associated with the HPCI system installed at the Elevation 88 ft. level of the Radwaste Billding were submerged:

1. Unit 3 HPCI Gland Seal Pump No. 30P28, 1 hp.
2. Unit 3 HPCI-4" Motor Operated Valve No. MOV 2-23-25 3 Unit 3 HPCI Aux. Oil Pump No. 30P26, 7 5 hp. f 9e Q'

., o o Page 2 Damage to the motors has been documented for corrective action by our Architect-Engineer / Constructor. The supplier has been notified and has been requested to inspect and assess the damage to this equipment.

It is the intention of the Philadelphia Electric Company to have these motors replaced or reworked to reestablish the motor warranties. A more detailed report of the damage to the three motors in the Radwaste Building will be submitted after the supplier evaluates the extent of damage and the corrective action required to restore the equipment to meet warranty conditions.

No radioactive materials were inadvertently released or lost as a result of the subject storm and flooding at Peach Bottom Units 2 & 3 and none of the design bases used in our safety evaluation of the facility were exceeded.
