Catawba Nuc?c(y 7,ation Docket Nos. EU-913 and 50-414 Status Update for Generic Letter 88-14 Instrument Air Supply System Problems Affecting Safety-Related Equipment Duke Power's initial rasponse to Generic Letter (GL) 88-14 was provided on May 8,
1989.
All action items committed to in of Hal B.
Tucker's May 8,
1989 letter are complete.
The only outaterdj M commitment from the body of the initial response is resetting the heaters in the inboard and outboard doghouses.
An expected completion time for this work will be provided by February 1, 1992.

Tuckman's letter dated August 12, 1991 provided Duke Power's revised response to GL 88-14.
There were seven action items listed in the revised response to,GL 88-14.
Items 1 and 2
in Attachment 3
(Catawba safety Related Air Operated Equipment) of the August 12, 1991 submittal have been completed.
The schedule for completing Item 3 (revising the verification testing program) and Item 4
(schedule for completion of verification tecting for each component) is provided as Attachment I to this submittal.
Item 5 (defining how the instrument air system is to be tested and what the acceptance criteria should be) is complete.
Testing will be consistent with the information provided in the May 8, 1989 response.
Item 6, review of the components identified in the August 12, 1991 submittal with respect to Generic Letter Action Item 2, is complete.
The May 8, 1989 response with respect to emergency procedures and training remains valid.
A maintenance practice review is provided as Attachment II to this submittal.

l Attachmont II Verification of the Adequacy of Maintenanco Practicos r
for Newly Identified Components A review of maintenance practicos was completed for tho items identified in the supplomantal review with the following results:
1.
Standing Work Roquests - (SWRs)- woro generated to replace i
the filters in the filter regulators for the valvos and t
dampors' listed in the supplomontal rosponso dated August j
12, 1989.

SWRs for proventivo maintenanco of the Personnel Air Lock Doors woro reviewed and found to be adequato.
Those SWRs i
cover a) Investigation and repair of the air lock doors should they fall, i
b)
"O" ring replacement in the solonoid valves, i
c) Lubrication of the nochanical components of the
- doors, d) Light bulb replacement for all indicator lights, and 1
e) Pressure and' volume testing of the door seals.
3.
SWRs for preventivo naintenance of the Auxiliary Foodwater Pump Turbino Governor were reviewed and found to bo adequato.
These SWRs includo quarterly lubo oil sampics and 'somi-annual and annual oil changes.
SWRs for the c&ilbration and checkout of the turbino and governor are performed each refueling outago.
Filter regulator filters are replaced on a two year interval.
