accordance wi th Section 6.7.2.A of the Technical Speci fications, Appendix A of DPR-56 for Unit 3 Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, the following occurrence is being submi tted to the Directorate of Reactor Licensing as an Abnormal Occurrence.

Motor grounded on core spray injection valve 11A.

Condi tions Prior to Occurrence:

Reactor in cold shutdown.

4 Description of Occurrence:

During a closing stroke, the valve motor grounded and tripped its breaker.

Desinnation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence:

Investigation indicated that the motor had failed because the torque switch which de-energizes the operator motor at the completion of its closing stroke, fai led to operate.

There was no safety significance associated wi th this occur-rence since the plant was in the cold shutdown condition.

Corrective Action:

The damaged motor was replaced and the torque switch removed and inspected. A heavy buildup of grease was renoved from the Bellville washer section and the grease bypass line. The operator was stroked successfully and returned to service.

Investigation is continuing.

Failure Data:

A0-50-277-74 failure of Core Spray valve Motor.
