Letter dated December 31, 1985, from D M Musolf (NSP) to U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission, " Supplement 1 to NUREG 0737, Ceneric Letter 82-33, Detailed Control Roem Design Review, Summary Report" The purpose of this letter is to provide a schedule for the c;mpletion of the Prairie Island Control Room modifications to meet our commitments related to the requirements of NUREC-0737 Supplement No. 1.
Our letter dated December 28, 1990, Reference 1, requestc 1 an extension to our commitment completion c'a t e..
We discussed several factors which influenced this delay such as:
- 1) The addition of new safeguard diesel generators and diesel generator
-controls to support our compliance with the new station blackout rule.
l
- 2) The replacement of the balance of plant annunciator system with a i
microprocessor-based system.
We committed to providin6 a complete schelule of remaining tasks by July 31, 1991. The projected schedule for the remaining Control Room tasks is actailed below:

.a Nodhem states Power Company Unit 1 Cycle 15 Replace balance of plant annunciator system an'J relocate Scheduled 6/91 windows (gggplein).
Install annunciator window box for safeguards diesel generators (templete).
Unit 2 Cycle 15 Rtconfigure Unit 2,
'F2' panel (heater drain controls).
Scheduled 2/92 This must be performed prior to
'A' panel to allow a new location for the external circulating water controls presently located on
'A' panel.
The existing controls for the safeguards diesel generators and their associated 4160 Volt buses located on Control Room 'G' panel will be replaced and additional continis for the new diesel generators will be installed.
Unit 1 Cycle 16 Reconfigure Unit 1 'F1' (heater drain) panel.
Scheduled 11/92 Unit 2 Cycle 16 Reconfigure Unit 2
'A2' panel.
'A2' panel includes Scheduled 9/93 control for containment spray, containment fan coil, component cooling, cooling water and containment ventilation.
This sequence is necessary because a large number of instruments from ' Al' panel are being relocated to 'A2' panel.
Unit 1 Cycle 17 Reconfigure Unit 1 'Al' panel. This panel contains Scheduled 4/94 controls similar to 'A2' panel.
We havo looked at this schedule and concluded that it will not affect the safe operation of the plant or the resolution of priority Human Engineering Discrepancies identified in our Detailed Control Room Design Review, Summary Report, Reference 2.
With the exception of three Human Engineering f
Discrepancies, all discrepancies were prioritized as "long term" or " optional correction acceptable".
The three higher Haman Engineering Discrepancies, prioritized as *ncar term correction necesse y",
are listed below with justification for schedule delay.
1)
Iasrall new style containment pressure recorder and relocate in same plane as other recorders.
Jys11fication: Although this item was listed as requiring near term correction, this deficiency would be given a different priority level today because this parameter is now included in the Safety Parameter Display System high level display. The Safety Parameter Display System was not available at the time of the evaluation of the Human Engineering Discrerincies.
- 2) Split status lights for "11 Containment Spray from the RWST" according to convention.

Nodhem States Power Company Jus ti(,t e atiqu: The Emergency Operating Procedures specify an additional method of verification of the status of this valve position, thereby minimizing the significance of this convention discrepancy.
- 3) Split status lights for "12 Containment Spray from the RUST" according to convention.
Justification:
Same justification as for r. umber 2.
