6 Dr. Donald F. Knuth Directorate of Regulatory Operations Office of Regulation U. S. Atomic Energy Commission Washington, D. C. 20545 Re:

Docke

-275-OL Docket 50-323-OL

Dear Dr. Knuth:

In our letter dated April 24, 1974 we notified your of-fice of the circumstances surrounding a discrepant condition on the I

exterior surfaces of the Unit 1 steam generator nozzles that was I

reportable under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.55(e) (1) (iii).

Since this was a preliminary report, we stated that we expected to transmit I

our final report outlining the extent, nature and resolution of the discrepancy before June 1, 1974.

Subsequently, it was determined that the nature and detail of the investigation were such that we could not meet the June 1,1974 deadline.

The Region V office was verbally notified that the deadline could not be met, and a new date of August 1,1974 was established for submittal of our final report.

However, all construction activities at the site have been halted since July 1, 1974 due to a series of strikes.

At this time, it is difficult to estimate when the current labor difficulties will be settled and work resumed at the site.

Since the submittal of our final report is contingent upon the conclusion of repair work and subsequent evaluation by Westinghouse, we are unable to determine when the final report can be transmitted until the craft labor re-turn to work.

As soon as construction resumes, we will advise your office of our estimated date for submitting the final report.
