Our letter of September 9,1974 submitted Abnormal Occurrence Report A0-17-74 on cracking of a letdown line vent pipe. This letter is written to provide the results of the laboratory examination, which we indicated would be submitted when they became available.
The metallurgical examination of a fracture section of the stainless letdown line revealed that the tube failed in a fatigue manner at the heat-affected zone of the veld joint.
Since this vent has been completely removed, we plan no further action.
