Quad-Cities liuclear Pouer Station, Unit 1 Docket tio. 50-254, DPR-29 Appendix A, Sections 1.0.A.3, 1.0.A.5, and 6.6.B.l.a

Dear I4r. Keppler:

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with notifi-cation of an Abnormal Occurrence as required by Technical Specification 6.6.B.l.a within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
of the occurrence.

At 10:04 a.m. On October 10, 1974, with Unit 1 at 520 me, an explosion occurred in the Unit 1 off gas holdup line.

The 1B Steam Jet Air Ejector rupture disc ruptured releasing off gas to the steam jet air ejector room through the tur-bine building ventilation system to the main chimney.

The i

/

resultant reduction in the off-gas hold-up time caused an indicated increase from approximately 30,000 microcuries/

sec to approximately 100,000 microcuries/sec at the main chimney radiation monitors.

A GSEP condition ABEL was de-clared at 10:07 a.m.

The unit load was reduced to 320 We, the 1 A SJ AE was placed in service, and the 1B SJ AE was iso-

,i lated by 10: 30 a.n.

A reduction in radioactivity as indicated l

by the main chimney radiation monitors was noted and therefore dropped to pre-incident levels.

The 1A chimney filter was l

placed in service and the 1B' chimney filter was isolated by 10: 50 a.m.

Condition ABLE was terminated at, 11:04 a.m.
