Quad-Cities Nuclear Power Station, Unit 1 Docket No. 50-254, DPR-29 Appendix A, Section 6.6.B.I.d
Dear Mr. Keppler:
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with notification of a Reportable Occurrence as required by Technical Specification 6.6.B.I within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
of the occurrence.
At 2:30 p.m. on May 12, 1977 with Unit One operating at 200 MWe, the unit experienced a sudden turbine control valve opening resulting in a feedwater flow increase and a reactor scram from APRM high flux.
Based on the magnitude of the power transient as indicated on the APRM recorder charts, and the length of time observed by the process computer for the duration of the tran-sient, it has been concluded that a short-term reactivity increase corresponding to a reactor period of less than 5 seconds was experienced.
This occurrence was discussed at the station with Mr. N. Jackiw of your office on May 12, 1977.
Further information will be provided by Reportable Occurrence Repor't RO 50-254/77-24 which will be submitted within 14 days of the date of this occurren.:e.
