QUAD CITY NUCLEAR POWER STATION UNIT NUMBER 2 DOCKET 50-265 DPR-30 APPENDIX A SECTION 1.0.A 4 AT 0900 ON M AY 6 1973 THE 1/2 DIESEL GENERATOR ALITO STARTED k WHEN BUSES 13 AND 13-1 WERE INADVERTENTLY TRIPPED. UNIT ONE .
WAS IN COLD SHUTDOWN AND UNIT TWO WAS AT 90 PERCENT POWER. FOLLOWIN THE DIESEL SHUTDOWN THE AIR STARTING ACCUMULATORS WERE FOUND TO BE DEPRESSUF.IZED WITH THE COMPRESSORS RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY.
THE CAUSE WAS TRACED TO THE DIESEL ST ART RELAY CONT ACT WHICH V 1201 (R&49; CLOSED TO OPERATE THE SOLEN 0ID VALVE SUPPLYING AIR TO THE ST ARTING MOTOR. AN ARC ACROSS THIS CONJACT liAD WELDED THEM CLOSED PREVENTING THEIR OPENING AFTER THE AUTO ST ARTED. SURVEILLANCE REQUIREMENT OF SECTION 4.9.E.1 WERE SUCCESSFULLY MET ON UNIT TWO DURING THE PERIOD THAT THE SHARED DIESEL WAS INOPERABLE. THE DAMAGED CONTACT WAS REPLACEDAND THE DIESEL MADE OPERABLE BY 1800.
