Dear Mr. Glanbusso:

The purpose of this let er is to provide you with more infonnation concerning the loss of flow to the Main Chimney i

Sampic System which occurred on December 22, 1972. This was reported to you by telegrca on that date as an ab-normal occurrence. After reviewing this incident and Change 4 to the Technical Specifications issued December 14, 1972, we have concluded that this was not an abnormal occurrenCO.

The sample system was inoperable due to a valving error

/

from about 7:00 M unti1 8:30 AM on December 22, 1972.

This occurred when the sampic line Das isoleted in the f

s process of obtaining a monthly tritium sample and not returned to service properly. All perscancl who operate the sample system have been instructed to notify the control room prior to the interrupt!on of any process sampic _line and again when the system has been returned to nonrial.

Technical Specification 3.8.G allows the chimney monitoring system to be Inoperable for up to 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
provided that the reactors are operating under steady state conditions and both alr ejector of f gas monitors and continuous air monitors are operating. During the period that the chimney sampic system was inoperable all air ejector off gas monitors and continuous air monitors were operable. Both units were at I
