Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
This letter is in reply to your letter of December 10, 1971 that confirmed your telegram of December 9, 1971 to Mr. R. H.
Sims, Vice President of Jersey Central Power & Light Company, relative to the recent incident at the Turkey Point 3 Station in which three relief valves were ejected from two main steam line headers.
This will advise that headers, as described in your letter, are not installed in the main steam lines at our Oyster Creek Station. The relief and safety valves at Oyster Creek sit on short six-inch diameter branch connections that are velded directly to the top of the main steam lines. During the recent outage at Oyster Creek, nine, twenty-four inch pipe velds were examined ultrasonically on the north main steam line and no reportable indications were observed.
We vill continue these in-service inspection activities during the next refueling outage and our engineering personnel vill be keeping abreast of the results of the investigation of the Turkey Point incident in order to determine the applicability, if any, to Oyster Creek.
Very truly yours,
