Subject:

Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Docket No. 50/395 Operating License No. NPF-12 NRC IE Bulletin No. 83-08

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

On December 28, 1983, the NRC issued IE Bulletin No. 83-08,

" Electrical Circuit Breakers with an Undervoltage (UV) Trip Feature in Use in Safety-Related Applications Other Than the Reactor Trip System."

Licensees were requested to identify applications of Westinghouse type DB, Westinghouse type DS and General Electric type AK-2 circuit breakers with the UV trip.

feature as well as other types of breakers by other manuf acturers that use a UV trip feature in safety-related applications.

In a response dated March 19, 1984, South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G) reported that it had not identified any application of Westinghouse type DB, Westinghouse type DS or General Electric type AK-2 circuit breakers with the undervoltage trip feature in safety-related systems, other than the Reactor Trip Breakers, at the Virgil C.

Summer Nuclear Station.

In response to a recent NRC question, SCE&G has reviewed all other circuit breakers and has identified no other circuit breakers that utilize the undervoltage trip feature in safety-related applications.

I declare the statements and matters set forth herein are true and correct to the best of my knowledge, information and belief.

Very trul

yours, j
