Description of the Problem The subject single girder cranes are located in 'the diesel ge'nerator rooms for servicing the diesel generators. The runway beams are designed as seismic Category I but the cranes are not seismically qualified.

In its original parked position, the crane was designed such that if it had fallen as a result of seismic event, the crane or crane parts would not impact on the diesel generators.

This design was in accordance with Regulatory Guide 1.29 Rev. 3, Paragraph 2.

As the result of a design change in the parked position of the crane, the crane, or crane parts, could impact on the diesel generators if it would fall durin. a seismic event.

4 This matter is still under investigation. A final report will be submitted by October 15, 1984.
