Georgia Power Company (GPC) hereby subnits the following information concerning inservice inspection activities at Plant Hatch Unit 1 in response to Items 2 and 3 of NBC I&E Bulletin 82-03 concerning stress corrosion cracking in austenitic stainless steel BWR Recirculation System piping. The responses to Items 1 and 4 of the bulletin were submitted to NBC Region II by our letter dated December 15, 1982. The information contained herein will complete the required response to the subject bulletin.

Item 2 Before resuming power operations following the current refueling or extended outage, the licensee is to provide a listing of results of recirculation system piping inspections.

Response

A l' sting of results of Recirculation System piping inspections was provided in Attachments 2 and 3 to the GPC letter dated December 15, 1982.

Item 3 Before resuming power operations following the current refu ning or extended outage, the licensee (if the inspections indicate the preserce of cracks) is to describe the corrective actions taken and reprt these in accordance with the appropriate regulations.

Response

Several Recirculation and Residual Heat Removal (RHR) system welds, as discussed in Attachment 3 to the GPC letter dated December 15, 1982, had reportable indications. Analyses have demonstrated the need to repair six (6) welds at this time in the form of a weld overlay. The welds requiring repair are as follows:

RHR lEll-lRHR-20B-D-3 RHR lEll-lRHR-24B-R-13 In addition, the indications on ' Recirculation System weld 1B31-lRC-22AM-1BC-1 were analyzed and were determined not to require repairs at this tima. A leakage detection system for that particular i weld is being considered.

l Details of the analyses and repairs will be subnitted to NBC NRR under separate cover. A copy of that subnittal will be provided to NRC Region II.
