Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
This letter is a Special Report submitted as required by McGuire Nuclear Station Technical Specification 3.7.8.
Duke Power Company has design changes planned which modify the total number of hydraulic and mechanical snubbers in the Technical Specifications. A description of each of the planned changes follows.
Modification No. MG-888 (Unit 1)
This modification will involve rerouting the auxiliary steam (SA) drains containing valves 1SA56 and ISA59 which currently drain the Auxiliary Feedwater Pump Turbine Exhaust to the "B" and "C" Main Steam line drains. The new one inch drain lines will be Class B piping and will tie into the Main Steam System (SM) on the two inch drain lines containing valves 1SM89 and 1SM95.
This modification involves the addition of five mechanical snubbers to the SA system.
l Modification No MG-20033 (Unit 2) l l
This modification involves rerouting the Reactor Makeup Water Storage Tank overflow piping to the inlet header for Recycle Holdup Tanks A and B.
As a result of this change, six mechanical snubbers in the Chemical and Volume Control System will be deleted.
Modification No. MG-880 (Unit 1)
This modification disconnects the Boron Injection Tank from the piping in the Chemical and Volume Control System and Safety Injection Systems. As a result, two hydraulic snubbers will be deleted and one mechanical snubber will be added.
A revision to Technical Specification 3.7.8 to reflect the above modifications will be submitted with the next license amendment request.
