O ntsconsin Bectnc rowcourm 231 W. MICHIGAN. P.O. BOX 2046, MILWAUKEE, WI 53201 December 6, 1983 Mr. H. R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.
S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Washington, D. C.
20555 Attention:
Mr. J.
R. Miller, Chief Operating Reactors Branch 3 Gentlemen:
DOCKETS 50-266 AND 50-301 CORE DAMAGE ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY NUREG-0737, ITEM II.B.3 POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 In Mr. J.
R. Miller's letter of November 3, 1983, which transmitted the Safety Evaluation for the Post-Accident Sampling System at our Point Beach Nuclear Plant, it was requested that we provide a schedule for implementing the core damage assessment methodology currently being developed by Westinghouse for the Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG).
The schedule for completion of the WOG methodology was recently delayed until February 1984, due to the serious illness of the lead Westinghouse contributor.
Mr. J. J. Sheppard, Chairman of the WOG, informed Mr. J. A. Norris (NRC) of the delay by letter dated November 4, 1983.
Since Dr. E. J. Lipke of Wisconsin Electric is Chairman of Core Damage Assessment Working Group of the WOG, as well as a member of our emergency response team, the core damage assessment methodology will be available for reference and use immediately upon issuance by the WOG in February 1984.
Formal incorporation of the methodology into our Emergency Plan Implementing Procedures will occur no later than 60 days after receipt of the WOG methodology.
Very truly yours,
/
