This letter provides a schedule update for submitting the Edison response to J
Generic Letter 88-20, Supplement No. 4 - Individual Plant Examination for External Events. The schedule has changed from June 1,1995 to December 31, 1995.
Edison originally proposed a submittal date of June 28, 1996 in Reference 1.
This proposed schedule was later accelerated to June 30, 1995 because of the increased resources available due to the permanent shutdown of SONGS 1 (Reference 2).
The NRC approved a submittal date of June 1,1995 (Reference 3) and requested that Edison inform the NRC of any changes in the schedule. This letter is to inform the NRC, as requested, that the current schedule for the SONGS 2&3 IPEEE submittal has been delayed to December 31, 1995.
Edison is performing a full-scope seismic Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) for Units 2 & 3 to satisfy the IPEEE requirements. The full-scope effort involves the generation of seismic hazard curves, an evaluation of the soil-structure interactions, development of new floor response spectra for critical structures, numerous fragility evaluations of components and structures, analysis of relay chatter impact on equipment response, and extensive fault l

tree modeling.
The iterative nature and phasing relationships associated with these efforts has required more time than anticipated when the completion date of Reference 2 was predicted. However, the project is sufficiently underway that Edison has full assurance that the new submittal date of December 31, 1995 will be met.
